Steam train comming

A steam train coming into the steam depot at Germiston, Gauteng, South Africa. The guys are doing a wonderful job in maintaining these old steam locomotives in working order as an example of how things worked and were done back in the day.

Wrecked Dock

A Picture of the floating dock that was wrecked near Glentana during the 1920's. It is interesting to see how the sea is reducing the wreck over time. This is a section of the wreck, I will post a wider view in a next blog.

15F Steam Locomotive

15F Steam Locomotive steaming into the Germiston Steam Yard. The rising sun behind the smoke and steam made me want to take the picture.

Old Bridge

A picture of the old rail bridge across the mouth of the Touw River, South Cape, South Africa. No train has crossed this bridge since the track was damaged during severe storms almost 10 years ago.

Burnt out taxi

I photographed this wreck of a burnt out taxi in Rosebank, Gauteng. I have seen taxis almost as bad still in use. Looking at what is left, it is almost scary to see what proportion of a vehicle is combustible. One is literally cocooned by combustible materials - seats, roof lining, carpets etc. etc.

Graffiti

Graffiti next to Malibongwe Road, Randburg, South Africa. I enjoyed the humor in the concept of an old lady running away from a wall with her purse full of paint cans.

Bus-truck

This half bus half truck is in the railway transport museum in George. Interesting concept. It must have worked in days gone by - when there were less people, longer distances, and a need for a transport service along the bus route.

19950Studebaker Champion

This is the grill of a 1950 Studebaker Champion. It must have made a statement back in the 1950's - given the boxy look that was more or less standard at the time. I wonder if it was at all inspired by jet engines that were then still fairly new and at the edge of engineering achievement.

Perimeter Fence

A veterinary practice in Sedgefield, South Cape, has a perimeter wall made up of concrete animals painted with various patterns. This one is the most interesting.

Driving Lamp

I tried to capture the gleam of the chrome driving lamp on this classic car.
